Croatian Automobile Club reports queues on motorways, state roads, and border crossings, with increased traffic expected tomorrow.
Due to a traffic accident on the A1 Zagreb-Split-Dubrovnik motorway near the Modruš rest area, in the direction of the capital, traffic through the Mala Kapela tunnel was stopped on Wednesday. The halt was caused by congestion and a queue, according to a report by the Croatian Automobile Club (HAK) published on August 19, 2026.
On the same road, queues approximately 1 kilometer long formed in front of the Demerje and Lučko toll booths in the direction of Zagreb. Increased congestion is being recorded on motorways toward the coast and inland, with occasional delays on sections under construction and on city streets.
On the A3 Bregana-Lipovac motorway, a collision occurred between the Lučko and Zagreb zapad interchanges at km 19+400 in the direction of Bregana, so traffic in that section is moving slowly. In both directions, between the Sveta Nedelja and Lučko interchanges, bottlenecks are forming intermittently in the construction zone.
Works on the A3 will last for some time: until September 1, due to drainage repairs on the stretch from the Popovača interchange to the Kutina interchange in the direction of Lipovac (from km 90+700 to 93+800), traffic is being diverted through two narrowed lanes. Until October 3, works are ongoing between the Sveta Nedelja and Zagreb zapad interchanges (from km 12+480 to 15+300), where the carriageway in the direction of Lipovac is closed, and vehicles are moving in both directions on the carriageway in the direction of Bregana, with two narrowed lanes in each direction.
On the D1 state road Gračac-Knin, congestion is forming in the construction zone near Otrić, while on the Adriatic Highway (D8), delays have been recorded on the approaches to Split. On Krk Island, between the Šmrika and Omišalj roundabouts, queues extend in the direction of the island.
On the A7 Rupa-Križišće motorway, at the exit ramp of the Sveti Kuzam interchange toward Rupa, a broken-down truck is slowing traffic, which is moving in one lane. On the A2 Zagreb-Macelj motorway, two sections are being used exclusively by the driving lane: from km 17+500 to 13+750 toward Macelj (Krapina, Đurmanec section) and from km 6+700 to 8+200 toward Zagreb (Trakošćan, Đurmanec section).
Increased traffic is expected on Thursday, August 20, 2026, on city roads and bypasses, as well as on certain motorway sections, especially in the morning and afternoon hours. In the northern Adriatic and Gorski Kotar, road surfaces will be wet and slippery in places.
Delays are possible on the Zagreb (A3) and Rijeka (A7) bypasses, on the A4 motorway between the Popovec and Zagreb istok interchanges, and on the Istrian Y (A8) between the interchange and the Učka tunnel. Waiting times in passenger and freight traffic are expected at certain border crossings with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, and Montenegro, while no difficulties are expected in maritime traffic.
