ZUABA of Šibenik-Knin County Accuses Infinite Show Company and Unknown Contractors of Damaging Protected Cultural Heritage at Šubićevac.
The Municipal State Attorney's Office in Šibenik has received a criminal complaint from the Community of Anti-Fascist Fighter and Anti-Fascist Associations (ZUABA) of Šibenik-Knin County, filed against the company Infinite Show, the organizer of Marko Perković Thompson's concert, and against unknown individuals who carried out the works. The complaint concerns reasonable suspicion of the criminal offense of damaging and destroying cultural heritage under Article 319 of the Croatian Criminal Code, specifically the Memorial Park of the Executed at Šubićevac, dedicated to Rade Končar and 25 Šibenik and Dalmatian anti-fascists.
In the criminal complaint, as reported by Tris Šibenik, it is stated that in the days preceding the concert held on August 4, 2026, at the Šubićevac Stadium, illegal construction and horticultural works were carried out within the protected immovable cultural heritage site of the Šubićevac Memorial Park, registered in the Register of Cultural Heritage under number Z-2019.
"The organizer, without prior establishment of commercial and control corridors, and without approval from the competent authorities, carried out the illegal felling of a significant number of trees and native vegetation, as well as the breaching of the fence of the protected memorial complex. It is evident that there was a conscious and deliberate devastation of the protected cultural heritage of the Republic of Croatia for economic gain," the ZUABA complaint states.
The Regional Conservation Office in Šibenik immediately reacted and demanded the removal of inappropriate concert infrastructure, warning that the reverence for the executed and the integrity of the memorial area had been compromised. The head of the office, Angela Bujas, warned that in accordance with the Law on the Protection and Preservation of Cultural Heritage, all works on cultural heritage can only be undertaken with the approval of the conservation service.
The conservators requested the urgent removal of mobile structures from the City of Šibenik and sent the organizers a decision to halt the placement of structures in the memorial area. Despite this, as ZUABA states, the owner and organizer ignored the requests and turned the Memorial Park into the main entrance to the concert, even though the stadium has three entrances.
Although no visible damage was apparent after the concert, ZUABA believes this does not diminish the permanent harm inflicted on the protected greenery and the historical integrity of the memorial area. "Given that the described actions contain all elements of the criminal offense under Article 319 of the Croatian Criminal Code, we demand that the police, in cooperation with the Conservation Department, seize official records, determine the exact number of felled trees, and forward the criminal complaint to the competent state attorney's office," the ZUABA statement reads.
The memorial park project is credited to sculptor Kosta Angelija Radovani and architect Zdenko Kolacija, and the park is dedicated to Rade Končar and his comrades who were executed on May 22, 1942.
