A cyclist under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol level of 2.00 promille fell off his bicycle and sustained serious injuries in Donji Miholjac, the Osijek-Baranja Police Department reported. The accident occurred on August 18, 2026, at approximately 6:25 PM in the Gorica settlement.
According to the police report, as reported by Osijek Express, the rider was traveling along the roadway in the Gorica settlement in Donji Miholjac. Upon reaching house number 19, he lifted the bicycle onto its rear wheel, causing him to lose control of the vehicle and fall onto the roadway, resulting in serious injuries.
In a statement, the police said: "The 39-year-old rider, on August 18 at approximately 6:25 PM, was riding a bicycle under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol level of 2.00 promille and was traveling along the roadway in the Gorica settlement in Donji Miholjac. Upon reaching house number 19, he lifted the bicycle onto its rear wheel, causing him to lose control of the vehicle and fall onto the roadway, resulting in serious injuries."
The cyclist faces three misdemeanor notices. For causing a traffic accident, a fine of 290 euros is prescribed; for riding a bicycle under the influence of alcohol, a fine of 60 euros; and for not using a bicycle path or lane, an additional 60 euros.
The police clarified in their statement: "For causing a traffic accident, the cyclist will receive a misdemeanor notice with a fine of 290 euros. For riding a bicycle under the influence of alcohol, he will receive a misdemeanor notice with a fine of 60 euros. As he did not use a bicycle path or lane, he will receive a misdemeanor notice with a fine of 60 euros."
