On Wednesday, July 29, 2026, the Center for the Elderly in Grubišno Polje was officially opened. According to the portal Klikni.hr, in addition to permanent accommodation for 102 users, the institution will provide home-based services for at least 227 residents in their own homes.
The center is designed to enable elderly people to stay in their own homes as long as possible. Services include home help, meal delivery, and half-day or full-day day care for those who wish to spend part of the day at the center and nights at home. Psychosocial counseling is also available for users and their families.
Special support is intended for families who care for an elderly member on their own. When the caregiver is temporarily unable, for example due to illness or work absence, the center takes over care of the elderly person, giving the family a safe respite without fear that their loved one will be left unattended.
The mayor of Grubišno Polje, Zlatko Pavičić, emphasized that it is precisely the model that combines accommodation and community services that allows the elderly to stay in their own homes as long as possible. At the opening, Prime Minister Andrej Plenković highlighted that home-based services include domestic help, day care that can last half a day or a full day, and care when caregivers are unable to do it themselves.
The center, worth more than €11.3 million, was financed with European Union funds through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. In addition to care for the elderly, the opening brings about 70 new jobs, reports Klikni.hr.
