Just under a month after announcing his departure from the Croatian national football team, Zlatko Dalić will not be resting for long. As of today, the former Vatreni coach is officially the new head coach of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) national team.
According to unofficial reports from Sportske novosti, Dalić will earn five million euros per year in his new role, excluding bonuses. This makes him the highest-paid Croatian coach in history, as the figure is nearly three times what he received from the Croatian Football Federation.
For Dalić, the UAE job also marks a return to the Arabian Peninsula, where he has already left a significant mark. From 2014 to 2017, he managed Al-Ain in Abu Dhabi, winning three trophies before taking over the Croatian national team and making history with them.
Dalić will be accompanied by part of his trusted team. As reported by Sportske novosti, Danijel Subašić will serve as the goalkeeping coach, while long-time Croatian expert Branko Ivanković, who is currently retired from coaching, will take on the role of special advisor at the local football federation.
Candidates for positions in the coaching staff also include Vedran Ćorluka and Dražen Ladić, who were recently alongside Dalić with the Croatian national team. The duo has yet to make a final decision on moving to the Emirates.
There is also an interesting situation involving Igor Bišćan, the former coach of the Croatian U21 team. He could take charge of the UAE Olympic (U23) team, and he is expected to respond to the offer in the coming days.
