Osijek Bolsters Squad with New Signing, While Jurišić's Greek Adventure Remains on Hold

Significant changes are underway at NK Osijek. The new addition to the defense is Marcel Heister, a German center-back who has signed a one-year contract with an option for an additional season. On the other hand, as reported by Germanijak, the transfer of Roko Jurišić to Greek club Aris has unexpectedly fallen through, and the player has returned to his parent club.
Heister, born on July 29, 1992, is no stranger to Croatian football. He joins Osijek from Istra 1961, having amassed 176 appearances in league and cup matches, including those for Zadar. He has also played abroad: in Germany for Reutlingen and Hoffenheim II, then in Hungary for Ferencvaros, Fehervar, and Videoton (136 matches), as well as in Israel for Beitar and in Bulgaria for Ludogorec. With Ferencvaros, he featured in the Champions League group stage against Barcelona, Juventus, and Dynamo Kyiv, and in the Europa League he played against Espanyol and CSKA Moscow.
Statistics from last season clearly show why Osijek opted for him. His passing accuracy was 80.3 percent, while the league average for full-backs is 77.9 percent. He averaged 4.64 interceptions per game (league average 3.80), 2.08 blocks in front of his own goal (average 1.77), and 2.05 aerial duels won (average 1.69). With over 2,200 minutes on the pitch, he demonstrated consistency and reliability.
Osijek's new signing was quick to express his satisfaction with the decision.
"When I started talks with Osijek, the vision of the club, the coach, and the sporting director was immediately presented to me. I really liked it because I enjoy playing with young players and helping them on the pitch. I like attacking, aggressive, and dynamic football, and I believe we will look good,"said Heister. He also emphasized the speed of his decision:
"As soon as I heard that Osijek was interested and that I could stay in Croatia, I knew it would be my choice. I didn't think much - I decided to come to Opus Arena, and other offers no longer interested me."
He also revealed a special connection to Slavonia: his father was born in Cerna, where his grandparents are also from, so coming to Osijek has an emotional note. His familiarity with the league and friendships in the dressing room, such as the one with Petrusenko from Istra, will ease his adaptation.
Sporting director Kenneth Zandvliet praised the new addition.
"Heister is the kind of player you always want in your team - he's combative, works hard, directs his teammates, and always gives his all. Given the experience he has in the HNL, he represents great value for our young squad. He is equally quality in defense and attack and knows what kind of character we need on the pitch,"said Zandvliet.
While Osijek celebrates the arrival, Roko Jurišić's move to Greek club Aris has been halted for now. According to Germanijak, Jurišić was close to an agreement, but the personal terms offered by the Greek club differed significantly from those previously agreed upon. As a result, the player has returned to Osijek, where he will be greeted by new teammate Heister. It seems the club will continue to seek a solution for Jurišić's departure.
