HGSS Čakovec Rescues Hikers from Paklenica in 40-Degree Heat

Members of the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service (HGSS) Station Čakovec conducted a challenging rescue operation in Paklenica National Park over the past weekend. Two hikers got lost after straying from the marked hiking trail, and the Čakovec rescuers, who were on a detached duty there, pulled them out of the inaccessible rocky terrain.
The call for help was received from the Mala Paklenica area. The hikers got lost after descending from the marked route and ended up on extremely demanding and hard-to-reach terrain. As reported by eMeđimurje, they could no longer find their way out on their own. Rescuers from Čakovec quickly went to the scene, located the injured parties, and after a demanding intervention, safely extracted them and escorted them to a safe area.
The operation was carried out under very difficult conditions. In addition to the inaccessible rocky terrain, the rescuers' work was further hampered by extremely high air temperatures that reached nearly 40 degrees Celsius. Despite all circumstances, the intervention was successfully completed, and the hikers were safely brought out of the dangerous area.
From the HGSS Station Čakovec, they once again issued a warning to all mountain enthusiasts. They emphasize the importance of responsible behavior in nature, moving exclusively on marked hiking trails, monitoring weather forecasts, and carrying sufficient water. They also appeal to hikers to plan their route well in advance and realistically assess their own abilities. This intervention once again demonstrated how quickly a pleasant outing can turn into a serious and potentially dangerous situation.
