Dinamo's footballers have advanced to the Champions League playoffs after defeating Kauno Žalgiris 2:1 in the second leg of the third qualifying round. Following a convincing 5:0 from the first leg, the Blues routinely completed the job in Lithuania and now face the final hurdle on their path to the elite competition.

Kačavenda and Mišić give the lead, Filipović sent off

Dinamo took the lead in Kaunas in the 19th minute when Lukas Kačavenda scored the opening goal. Josip Mišić doubled the advantage in the 30th minute with a strike from 20 meters. Just two minutes later, in the 32nd minute, the Croatian champions were reduced to ten men as goalkeeper Ivan Filipović was sent off for a foul outside the penalty area. The hosts managed to reduce the deficit in the 56th minute through Croatian striker Gabrijel Debeljuh, but they could not do more than that.

'It's always a pleasure to play in Europe'

First goal scorer Lukas Kačavenda commented on the course of the match for Dinamo's official website. "We entered the match very well and aggressively. Unfortunately, Filipović got a red card, which disrupted us a bit, but not enough to prevent us from winning the match. I wouldn't say it was mentally difficult to play after the 5:0 win in the first leg, because it's always a pleasure to play in Europe," said Kačavenda.

He also reflected on his own form, adding: "I don't think it was a difficult task for us to prepare for the match. I feel good, and I think I can look even better. But all in all, I'm satisfied and I want to continue like this."

Champions League within reach

Dinamo's final obstacle on the road to the Champions League is Norwegian champions Viking FK. Kačavenda is one of the few in the dressing room with experience playing in the elite competition. "Yes, I'm one of the few in the dressing room who has played in the Champions League," said Kačavenda, then revealed the atmosphere in the team: "I can see that it's a big desire for the boys, just as it is for the entire staff and everyone at the club. I hope we'll go for it. However, the SHNL is everything to us; we live off it, and of course, we'll go into that match for a win and give our maximum."
