Drivers across Croatia face numerous challenges on the roads today, from traffic accidents and queues on highways to multi-hour waits at border crossings. According to the latest report from the Croatian Automobile Club (HAK) published on August 17, 2026, the most difficult situation is on the A7, where due to an accident between the Škurinje II tunnel and the Rujevica junction towards Rupa, traffic is moving at a reduced speed limit of 70 km/h.
On the A7 Rupa-Križišće, in addition to the accident near Rujevica, a 2-kilometer queue has formed on the exit ramp of the Učka junction towards Opatija and Istria. The Istrian Y (A8) also has issues: at the Matulji junction towards Rijeka, the queue is 1 kilometer long.
Another traffic accident occurred on state road DC106 on the island of Pag, in the town of Stara Vas, where traffic is moving at a speed limit of only 20 km/h. On DC1, in the construction zone near Otrić, between Gračac and Knin, traffic is moving slowly.
On the A1 Zagreb-Ploče-Karamatići, there are occasional slowdowns due to high traffic density, especially in rest area and tunnel zones, as well as at toll plaza approaches. Queues and short stops are present on the section from Karlovac junction to Bosiljevo 1 junction towards the coast, and from Ogulin junction via Bosiljevo to Karlovac towards the interior.
The Zagreb bypass (A3 Bregana-Lipovac) has higher traffic density between the Buzin junction and Zagreb zapad junction towards Bregana, and between Buzin and Zagreb istok towards Lipovac. On the A2 Zagreb-Macelj highway, two sections are down to one lane: from km 17+500 to 13+750 towards Macelj (Krapina-Đurmanec section) and from km 6+700 to 8+200 towards Zagreb (Trakošćan-Đurmanec section).
Drivers on the A3 can also expect long-term roadworks. Drainage rehabilitation on the section between Popovača junction and Kutina junction, towards Lipovac, from km 90+700 to 93+800, will last until September 1, 2026, with traffic running in two narrowed lanes. Until October 3, 2026, works are ongoing between Sveta Nedelja and Zagreb zapad junctions, from km 12+480 to 15+300, where the carriageway towards Lipovac is closed, and traffic is diverted to two-way traffic on the carriageway towards Bregana.
On DC102 to the island of Krk and the Krk Bridge, traffic is heavy in both directions, and towards the mainland, the queue starts as early as Njivice. On the coast, on approaches to tourist destinations in Istria and on the island of Krk, vehicles are moving in slowly moving queues with occasional short stops.
At some border crossings with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, and Montenegro, waits last for several hours. HAK advises drivers to adjust their speed and driving style to current road conditions and to maintain a safe following distance.
For August 18, 2026, HAK forecasts that in the first part of the day, roads in the interior will be wet and slippery, and on mountain roads there will be a higher risk of rockfalls. Due to the bura wind, restrictions may be in place for certain vehicle categories, especially on roads in the Velebit foothills. Delays are expected on the Zagreb bypass (A3), the A2 on the approach to the Zagreb zapad junction, and on the A4 between Popovec and Zagreb istok junctions. Increased passenger vehicle traffic is also expected at border crossings with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, and Montenegro.
