Russian forces launched one of the most massive combined attacks on the Odesa region during the night of August 9, 2026, firing dozens of missiles and drones at port and energy infrastructure. According to Ukrainian authorities, at least eight people were injured in the attacks, with the most significant destruction recorded in the city of Odesa itself.
Satellite data from NASA's FIRMS system, analyzed by the AMK Mapping channel, show that large fires broke out at the fuel tanks of Terminal No. 1 in the Port of Odesa, as well as at the Shkodova Gora oil depot. The attack was carried out with a combination of missiles, and according to the Wargonzo channel, more than 70 Geran-type drones and 20 missiles of various types were fired at Odesa in just two hours.
Since morning, the city has been shrouded in smoke, and power outages have been reported. Local authorities confirmed damage to infrastructure facilities and residential buildings.
During the overnight strike, a road bridge near the village of Maiaky was also hit and immediately closed to traffic. This bridge is a vital route for Ukrainian exports, as it carries freight traffic to the Danube ports, especially for goods that cannot be shipped via the ports of Odesa and Mykolaiv.
According to a report from the UNIAN Ukraine channel, a traffic jam about one kilometer long formed on the bridge this morning. Authorities have preliminarily announced that traffic could be restored during the afternoon, but exact timelines are not yet known.
The targeting of the bridge in Maiaky has direct consequences for Ukrainian export routes. According to the Voenacher channel, this route is used to transport grain, oil, and military cargo, and its closure further complicates logistics in the region. At the same time, attacks on port infrastructure in Odesa continue to threaten Ukraine's maritime transport capabilities.
Russian sources, including the channel of Boris Rozhin (Colonel Cassad), described the attack as a strike with a large number of missiles and drones, highlighting the scale of damage in the city.
