Summary
  • Tučepi Mayor Ante Čobrnić (HDZ) claims the Maritime Domain Law should be abolished and that fines do not concern him.
  • A German tourist reported 35 sun loungers at Kamena Beach and cash payments without fiscal receipts.
  • HDZ is preparing for an emergency parliamentary session scheduled for August 20, and ministers commented on the Gospić session on waste.

HDZ's mayor of the Municipality of Tučepi, Ante Čobrnić, who has led this local government unit for five consecutive terms, told Morski HR that the Maritime Domain Law should be abolished and that he intends to continue doing things his own way. When asked about penalties for violating the law, he responded that they do not concern him because, as he put it, his wealthy mother-in-law will pay them.

Čobrnić previously told Morski HR that he doesn't have to come to work for four years if he doesn't want to, which further illustrates his attitude toward his duties. The Municipality of Tučepi has no maritime inspector, and, as they say, anyone does whatever they want on the maritime domain.

German Tourist Reports Irregularities at Kamena Beach

A German tourist currently vacationing in Tučepi with his family, prompted by publicly available documentation and personal observations at Kamena Beach, contacted the media to point out irregularities.

"Although the media have already reported on the problem, there has been no progress at Kamena Beach. A large number of sun loungers (I counted about 35 at one location alone) continue to occupy the beach, and some of them remain set up overnight. Additionally, I witnessed cash payments without a fiscal receipt being issued, which I will report to the Tax Administration for verification," the German tourist told Morski HR.

HDZ Prepares for Emergency Session

While Čobrnić speaks out about the situation on the beaches, HDZ at the national level is preparing for an emergency session of the Croatian Parliament. The president of the HDZ Parliamentary Group, Ante Sanader, said they are looking forward to the session.

"Regardless of the fact that PRH Zoran Milanović played a double pass with #Možemo, we look forward to the emergency session of #SaborRH. It will be an opportunity for 🇭🇷 citizens to hear the truth once again - to refute the lies deliberately spread by the political opposition!" Sanader wrote on HDZ's Twitter.

The Speaker of the Croatian Parliament, Gordan Jandroković, has called an emergency session for Thursday, August 20.

Ministers on the Session in Gospić

Ahead of the emergency session, ministers commented on yesterday's session in Gospić regarding illegally disposed waste. Minister of Environment and Green Transition Marija Vučković told Nova TV's Dnevnik that she welcomes any opportunity to present the factual situation to citizens.

"I welcome any opportunity to present the factual situation to citizens, what we are doing, what remediation activities we are carrying out, and what still needs to be done. The citizens of Gospić have the right to answers, and we are open to dialogue and questions within our jurisdiction. We must, however, respect the Croatian Parliament's Rules of Procedure and legal procedures. After the session continued, we stayed to talk with everyone who wanted to and answer their questions," said Vučković.

Minister of Physical Planning, Construction and State Property Damir Habijan told HRT's Dnevnik that the session in Gospić was an opportunity for constructive discussion.

"As for today's session in Gospić on illegally disposed waste, I believe it was an opportunity for a constructive discussion in which citizens will receive concrete answers and hear what #VladaRH and the relevant ministries are doing. That is precisely why representatives of ministries and other institutions were present today," Habijan said.
