A traffic accident on the county road between Donje Bazije and Miljevci fortunately ended without injuries, but the 25-year-old driver will face misdemeanor proceedings.
Driving under the influence of alcohol and without a driver's license nearly led to serious consequences on Saturday afternoon on county road ŽC 4038. A 25-year-old driver lost control of a car with Austrian license plates, veered off the road, and ended up on its roof.
According to the report from the Virovitica-Podravina Police Department, the accident occurred on August 8, 2026, at around 6:30 PM on the stretch between Donje Bazije and Miljevci. The young driver failed to adjust his speed to the road conditions and, upon approaching a dangerous right-hand curve, lost control of the vehicle.
The car then went off the road across the shoulder into a drainage ditch and flipped onto its roof. Despite the dramatic outcome, no one was injured in the accident, and only material damage was reported.
Police officers who arrived at the scene administered a breathalyzer test and determined that the driver had gotten behind the wheel with 1.60 g/kg of alcohol in his system, or 1.60 promille. Further checks revealed that he did not have a driver's license on him.
Due to the committed offenses, misdemeanor proceedings will be initiated against the 25-year-old, the police confirmed in their statement.
