Pula traffic police received a report on August 17, 2026, at approximately 4:15 PM about a car hitting a pedestrian on Tršćanska Road in Pula. The investigation determined that a 49-year-old driver was operating a vehicle with Pula license plates under the influence of alcohol at 1.32 per mille.
At one point, the driver began overtaking a car that a 58-year-old man had partially stopped on the sidewalk. He did not approach the pedestrian crossing at a safe speed that would have allowed him to stop in time. As a result, he struck an 18-year-old pedestrian who was lawfully crossing the pedestrian crossing, and the force of the impact threw her onto the sidewalk.
In the accident, the 18-year-old sustained injuries that are yet to be determined and was transported to Pula Hospital. The driver was detained at police premises until the effects of the intoxicating substance wore off. After the severity of the victim's injuries is established, appropriate proceedings will be initiated against him, the Istria Police announced on August 18, 2026.
