Residents of the islands of Ugljan and Pašman will no longer have to travel to Zadar to obtain an ID card, passport, or driver's license. A newly renovated police office has been opened in the town of Preko, which, in addition to providing administrative services, will guarantee a permanent police presence, including the maritime police, throughout the year.
The project is the result of cooperation between the state, Zadar County, and the island municipalities. More than 270,000 euros have been invested in the renovation of the space. The Ministry of Regional Development and EU Funds provided 130,000 euros, while the remaining amount was jointly financed by the municipalities on Ugljan and Pašman. The equipment for the office was provided by the Ministry of the Interior.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Davor Božinović visited the new office and emphasized the importance of such projects. "This is an example of successful cooperation between all levels of government. We want citizens on the islands to have equally accessible services as everyone else in Croatia. That is why we are investing in police infrastructure and bringing state services closer to islanders," Božinović said.
The new office will also play a key role in the safety of maritime traffic, especially during the summer when navigation is at its peak. Minister Božinović noted that nearly 40,000 tourists are currently staying on the two islands. "This requires a greater presence and visibility of the police. This office will be at the disposal of citizens and their guests all 365 days of the year," he added.
Zadar County Prefect Josip Bilaver confirmed the significance of the investment. "The permanent presence of the police and maritime police on Ugljan and Pašman is extremely important, especially during the summer when maritime traffic is at its most intense. This is an investment in the safety of our residents and all visitors," Bilaver said.
The mayor of Preko, Jure Brižić, particularly emphasized that the new service will significantly ease the lives of elderly residents, who until now had to travel to Zadar for every administrative task. After touring the premises, the guests were introduced to the organization of the office, which will now be the central place for police and administrative services for the residents of the two largest Zadar islands.
