Fire Near Lovrečina Under Control, Crews on Site Through the Night

The blaze that broke out above Lovrečina Cove between Postira and Pučišća has been brought under control, with 4.5 hectares of low vegetation and forest burned.
The Supetar Volunteer Fire Department reported that the fire, which broke out on Wednesday above Lovrečina Cove in the area between Postira and Pučišća on the island of Brač, was brought under control during the afternoon. Firefighting crews will remain on the ground throughout the night for preventive watch.
A total of 37 firefighters in 12 vehicles took part in the extinguishing operation, while two Canadair aircraft provided support from the air. The Supetar Volunteer Fire Department confirmed to Hina: "The flames were contained in the afternoon hours, but firefighters will be on duty at the fire site all night."
The aerial forces played a crucial role in halting the spread of the fire front. The Canadairs enabled the rapid release of large amounts of water onto parts of the terrain that were significantly harder for ground crews to reach, thus helping firefighters bring the fire under control.
The fire consumed 4.5 hectares of low vegetation and forest cover. Crucially, the flames did not threaten residential buildings or homes, which is especially important for the residents of Postira and Pučišća, who watched the situation develop with relief.
Although containment meant stopping the spread of the fire line, the firefighters' work was not finished. Hidden hotspots may remain in the burned area, especially among vegetation and forest debris. Therefore, nighttime patrols are essential for the safety of the surrounding area. Firefighting crews will continue to inspect the terrain, cool critical spots, and respond if smoke or open flames appear, until it is determined that there is no longer any possibility of the fire reigniting and threatening adjacent areas.
