Summary
  • Thursday brings mostly sunny and stable weather to most of Croatia.
  • The Adriatic remains hot with a strong bura that will have storm-force gusts at the foot of Velebit.
  • In Dalmatia, maximum daytime temperatures range from 32 to 37 degrees.
  • For the weekend, inland temperatures will rise again, and on Sunday a moderate jugo is expected on the Adriatic.

On Thursday, August 13, 2026, most of Croatia will experience mostly clear and stable conditions, with temperatures somewhat more comfortable compared to previous days. The coast will remain hot, and the bura wind will cause additional difficulties, with storm-force gusts in some areas, according to a report from Lika Online.

Continental Croatia: Sunny and Hot

In Slavonia, Baranja, and Srijem, sunny and hot weather is expected. A moderate wind from the north and northeast will blow at times. Morning temperatures will range from 16 to 18 degrees, while daytime highs will mostly be between 30 and 32 degrees.

A similar situation is expected in central Croatia, where sunny conditions will prevail with only occasional partial cloud cover. The wind will generally be light and from the northeast, with temperatures comparable to those in the eastern part of the country.

Adriatic: Hot with Strong Bura

On the northern Adriatic and in Gorska Hrvatska, it will be mostly sunny and very warm to hot. In Gorski Kotar and the interior of Istria, moderate cloud cover may develop in the afternoon. Along the coast, a moderate to strong bura will blow, with storm-force gusts at the foot of Velebit, though it is expected to weaken during the afternoon. The highest temperatures in the mountainous area will be between 27 and 30 degrees, and along the sea from 32 to 35 degrees. On the northern Adriatic, the highest daily temperatures will range from 27 degrees in the interior of the peninsula to a hot 32 to 35 °C along the coast itself. Mariners and drivers are advised to exercise caution in the early hours due to the storm-force bura, but relief is expected by the afternoon as the wind weakens.

In Dalmatia, it will be mostly sunny and hot, with some places very hot. In the afternoon and evening, increased cloud cover is expected inland. In the morning, a moderate to strong bura will blow, shifting to northwest and southwest winds in the afternoon. Along the coast, morning temperatures will range from 25 to 29 degrees, with daytime highs between 32 and 37 degrees. Inland morning temperatures will be between 21 and 23 °C. The sea will be slight to moderate. As Dragoslav Dragojlović from DHMZ forecast for HRT: "In the coming days, the Adriatic will be sunny and hot with warm nights. On Friday, a moderate to strong bura will blow initially, weakening during the day and turning to southwest and northwest winds, and on Sunday, a moderate jugo will often blow."

In southern Croatia, it will remain very warm and mostly sunny. Nights will be warm and days hot, with the bura gradually transitioning to a maestral during the day. This stable summer formula—morning bura followed by afternoon maestral—will at least partially temper the high temperatures accompanying this heatwave. Doctors and emergency services reiterate the standard recommendations for days with high UV index and temperatures near 40 degrees: avoid direct sun during the hottest part of the day, stay well hydrated, and protect your skin adequately.

Forecast Through the Weekend

Stable weather will persist in the coming days. Inland, a gradual rise in daytime temperatures is expected, while the Adriatic will remain sunny and hot with warm nights. On Friday, August 14, a moderate to strong bura will still blow at the start, weakening during the day and shifting to southwest and northwest winds.

For the weekend, August 15 and 16, it will warm up again inland, while at the sea it will be stable and hot. On Sunday, a moderate jugo is expected on the Adriatic.
