Rockstar Games' parent company, Take-Two Interactive, confirmed in its latest financial report that the release date for Grand Theft Auto 6 remains set for November 19, 2026. Additionally, a special exclusive showcase titled 'Grand Theft Auto 6: An Extended Look' was announced, premiering on Netflix on August 27, 2026 and available exclusively on that platform for the first six hours.
In the first-quarter report for fiscal 2027, Take-Two highlighted that the Grand Theft Auto series "once again exceeded expectations." Sales of GTA 5 have surpassed 230 million copies worldwide, making it the second best-selling video game of all time, just behind Minecraft, which has sold 400 million copies. The series also saw a 3% increase in microtransaction revenue.
Passion and Anticipation Grow Day by Day
The statement notes that "global excitement for the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 continues to build, and the title is seeing an exceptional start to pre-orders." While specific pre-order numbers were not disclosed, recent analyses estimate that in the last week of June, after pre-orders began on June 25, 2026, approximately $180 million in digital pre-orders were generated across the U.S. and the five largest European markets.
Take-Two believes the upcoming Netflix showcase will further boost interest. "With Rockstar Games' recent announcement of 'Grand Theft Auto 6: An Extended Look' arriving on August 27, we believe consumer passion and anticipation for the next evolution of this iconic series will continue to grow ahead of the title's November 19 release," the company stated.
NBA 2K26 Breaks Records, Company at a Turning Point
Beyond the GTA series, NBA 2K26 also made a significant contribution to quarterly results, with its performance described as "outstanding and capping a record year for the franchise." The game has sold over 12 million units, a 9% increase compared to its predecessor, NBA 2K25. Recurrent consumer spending (RCS), or microtransactions, rose by 7%.
Take-Two praised developer Visual Concepts: "The achievements of this year's installment in the series are a testament to Visual Concepts' ability to consistently deliver new, innovative ways for fans to stay engaged, and our live-service performance remains a cornerstone of NBA 2K's enduring success." NBA 2K27 is expected as early as September 2026.
Total net bookings for the quarter were $1.39 billion, slightly above the forecast of $1.32 to $1.37 billion. Take-Two reiterated its annual net bookings guidance of $8 to $8.2 billion, representing growth of approximately 20% compared to the prior fiscal year, with GTA 6 expected to be the primary driver of that growth. The company expects 37% of revenue to come from Rockstar Games, 34% from Zynga, and 29% from 2K.
Take-Two called the current fiscal year a "turning point" for the company, "one that will write a new, exciting chapter in our history and provide the foundation for new levels of success and the creation of revolutionary entertainment experiences."
