In the Žbandaj area near Poreč, specifically along the road in Ladrovići, three fires of grass and low vegetation broke out almost simultaneously on Sunday, August 16, 2026. The flames engulfed approximately 7,000 square meters of land, and no injuries were reported.
The Poreč police received a report of the fires at around 10 a.m. on Sunday, after which officers responded to the scene. The Istrian Police Department confirmed to Istra Terra Magica: "The on-site investigation determined that the cause of the fire was an open flame of unknown origin."
Firefighters from the Poreč Public Fire Brigade received the report at approximately 10:10 a.m. and intervened in the Ladrovići area. According to Commander Denis Matošević, the fires were successfully contained, and after halting the spread, crews continued to extinguish hotspots to prevent re-ignition.
The Istrian police stated: "Officers are continuing to establish the circumstances that led to the outbreak of the fires." Further police action should reveal how the open flame originated and who is behind the three simultaneous fires along the roadway.
