On Wednesday, around 6:30 PM, in Donji Macelj in Zagorje, a minor sustained serious injuries in a traffic accident. As reported by the Krapina-Zagorje police, three 16-year-olds were involved in the collision; two were riding unregistered motorcycles, and the third was on a quad, none of them holding a driver's license.

Excessive Speed Led to the Collision

The accident occurred when a 16-year-old on an unregistered motorcycle failed to adjust his speed to road conditions. On a curve and downhill stretch, he crossed into the opposite lane and struck the rear side of a vehicle driven by another 16-year-old with the front of his motorcycle. Sources differ on the description of that vehicle: Index.hr reports it was a quad, while Net.hr mentions a tractor-quad.

After the violent impact, the motorcycle rider fell onto the road along with his vehicle. Behind them, traveling in the same direction, was a third 16-year-old, also on an unregistered motorcycle; he attempted to avoid colliding with the vehicles ahead but lost control and fell onto the road without hitting other participants.

AirLifted to KBC Zagreb

The injured motorcycle rider was airlifted by an emergency medical helicopter to KBC Zagreb, where he was admitted for further treatment. All three minors will be reported for offenses under the Road Traffic Safety Act and the Compulsory Traffic Insurance Act.

Parents were issued mandatory misdemeanor fines, and the police will report the incident to the relevant office of the Croatian Institute for Social Work.

Police Appeal to Parents and Youth

On this occasion, the police reminded that driving motor vehicles requires meeting legal requirements and holding an appropriate driver's license. In their statement, they particularly warned young people about the importance of adhering to traffic regulations and using protective gear.

"We especially warn young people about the importance of respecting traffic regulations, adjusting speed to road conditions, and using protective gear. We advise parents to be mindful of what vehicles their children are operating and whether they are participating in traffic in a safe and lawful manner," the police stated.
