Summary
  • The popular Svetice pool complex is closed from August 1 to 31 for annual maintenance.
  • The work includes repairing flood damage, cleaning all five pools, and renovating aging infrastructure.
  • Ventilation, air conditioning, and safety systems, as well as the wellness area, are being upgraded.
  • Zagreb residents can cool off at other city pools until the beginning of September.

Zagreb residents will not be able to seek summer refreshment at Svetice during the hottest days. Due to major annual maintenance that began on August 1 and runs until the end of the month, the popular pool is temporarily closed.

Far from Cosmetic Work

As reported by the Sports Facilities Management institution, the scope of work is significantly broader than routine maintenance. The focus is on repairing flood damage in the area housing pool equipment at the Competition, School, and Hydro-massage pools. Additionally, legally mandated inspections, servicing, and safety valve checks will be carried out, along with repairs to some pool machinery.

The work also encompasses ventilation and air conditioning systems. Deep cleaning of the HVAC systems is planned, along with replacement of air filters and worn drive belts. The fire alarm system will be repaired, air conditioning units will be serviced, and the main water discharge valve at the Competition and School pools will be replaced.

Thorough Cleaning and Disinfection

Major work is also taking place inside the pools themselves. All five pools, their interior surfaces, and compensation tanks will be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected. Workers will clean tiles in the pool halls, wellness area, and restrooms, wash interior glass surfaces, and replace damaged tiles.

In the wellness zone, repairs are planned for an electrical fault in the bio sauna and replacement of old wooden door handles on sauna doors. A new device for receiving wristbands will also be installed at the entry-exit system.

Return in September

Upon completion of the work, the pools will be refilled, the water will undergo hyperchlorination, and it will be heated to the prescribed temperature. The work is expected to be finished by August 31 so that Svetice can once again welcome athletes for training, competitions, and recreational swimmers from the beginning of September.

During the maintenance period, Zagreb residents can use other city pools, although some of them are also undergoing regular summer maintenance. The Sports Facilities Management institution notes that these tasks are carried out in summer because that is when indoor pools are least in demand due to school holidays, annual leave, and a reduced number of training sessions and matches.
