Where and When Screenings Take Place

Free dermatology screenings will be held at two locations. On Saturday, August 8, 2026, screenings will take place at the City Beach Žnjan in Split, while on Sunday, August 9, 2026, the campaign will be at Trg ribara in Trogir, near the fish market. At both locations, distribution of queue numbers begins at 4 PM, and the screenings themselves will run from 4 PM to 7 PM.

Who Will Examine Citizens

In Split, a team of experts will examine citizens: Dora Madiraca, MD, Maja Pavić, MD, PhD, Ana Sanader Vučemilović, MD, PhD, and Assistant Professor Dubravka Vuković Starić, MD, PhD. In Trogir, screenings will be performed by Klara Gaćina, MD, and Ivana Starčević, MD.

Expert Tips for Sun Protection

President of the Croatian Society for Dermatologic Oncology of the Croatian Medical Association, Academician Mirna Šitum, highlighted key preventive measures: "It can never be emphasized enough that during the sunniest part of the year, it is necessary to avoid direct sun exposure between 10 AM and 4 PM, to apply sunscreen with SPF 30 to 50+, and to reapply it every two hours to maintain its effectiveness."

She also added that it is important to pay attention to changes in the skin. "It is equally important that if you notice new skin changes that resemble a mole or an unusual change in existing moles, you visit your family doctor. If you have numerous moles that are continuously changing and appearing, regular dermatology check-ups are also an important preventive measure," said Šitum.

An Initiative That Grows Year After Year

The "Protect Yourself... and Enjoy the Sun" initiative was launched in 2011, and since then, more than 22,300 citizens across Croatia have participated. Over the last two editions, there has been an increase in the number of people referred for additional check-ups, which prompted organizers to expand the campaign this year to the largest number of cities so far. A detailed list of all locations where free dermatology screenings will be held during August is available on dm's website.
