Summary
  • Strong bura wind has closed part of the Adriatic Highway for Category I vehicles.
  • An accident near Jastrebarsko is slowing traffic towards the coast on the A1.
  • A queue of about one kilometer has formed at the Zagreb zapad interchange on the A2.
  • Jadrolinija's catamaran line 323 has been suspended due to the wind.

Friday morning brought numerous challenges for drivers on Croatian roads, especially those heading towards the coast. The Croatian Automobile Club (HAK) warns of a traffic ban for Category I vehicles on the Adriatic Highway, specifically on the section between Novi Vinodolski and Sveta Marija Magdalena. The reason is strong winds that have made it unsafe for motorcycles, vehicles with trailers, and double-decker buses to travel.

Increased Traffic and Accident on A1

As is typical during the peak tourist season, traffic is heavier on major roads, city bypasses, and approaches to tourist destinations. Occasional slowdowns are also reported on sections where roadworks are underway. The A1 Zagreb-Ploče-Karamatići motorway is particularly busy, with increased traffic density recorded between the Lučko toll plaza and the Bosiljevo 2 interchange in the direction of the coast.

The situation on this stretch is further complicated by a traffic accident. A collision occurred between the Donja Zdenčina and Jastrebarsko interchanges, also in the direction of the coast, causing traffic to be reduced to one lane and moving slowly.

Kilometer-Long Queue on A2

Congestion has not spared the A2 Zagreb-Macelj motorway either. At the Zagreb zapad interchange, in the direction of the capital, a queue about one kilometer long has formed, further slowing down traffic on this route.

Suspension of Catamaran Line

Problems caused by the wind are not limited to the mainland. The shipping company Jadrolinija has announced the suspension of catamaran line 323. This line connects Kraljevica, Crikvenica, Senj, Baška, Lopar, Rab, and Lun Tovarnele, and passengers who planned to use this route should inquire about alternative transportation options.

HAK urges drivers to be patient and extra cautious, and to set off with plenty of time and adjust their speed to the road conditions.
