Dinamo's 'Firecracker' Launches Croatia Ahead of Ukraine

Croatia has moved up to 22nd place on the latest UEFA national coefficient rankings, overtaking Ukraine. This significant shift is a direct result of GNK Dinamo's convincing victory in European qualification, played at Maksimir.
Although Dinamo dismantled their opponent with a high score, for UEFA's calculation of the national coefficient, the win itself is what matters. In qualifiers, each victory is worth one point, regardless of whether it's a 1:0 or a 5:0 result. That point is then divided by the number of clubs the country had at the start of the season.
Since Croatia had four representatives at the start of the European season, Dinamo's point was divided into four parts, contributing 0.250 points to the national coefficient. While the goal difference doesn't affect the mathematical calculation, the convincing performance significantly boosts the 'Blues'' chances of advancing and collecting more points.
The new 22nd place on the rankings is of great importance for Croatian club football. According to the current distribution of European spots, the 23rd position is the last one that guarantees the national champion a start in the Champions League qualifiers in the second round. Dropping to 24th would mean starting the European journey from the first qualifying round, which is now, at least for now, avoided.
Adding wind to Croatia's sails is the fact that they still have three active representatives in Europe. Alongside Dinamo, these are Rijeka and Hajduk. On the other hand, Ukraine has dropped to just two clubs after LNZ Cherkasy and Polissya Zhytomyr were eliminated from the competition.
Ukraine's situation is further complicated by the fact that their champion, Shakhtar, directly qualified for the Champions League league phase. This means they cannot earn new points for the national coefficient during the qualifying part of the season until the league phase itself begins.
Currently ahead of Croatia on the rankings is Romania, which also has two remaining clubs in European competitions. If Hajduk and Rijeka achieve good results in their upcoming matches, an opportunity for another jump would open up, although it will also depend on the success of the Romanian representatives.
Alongside the sporting success, the club shared a glimpse of the match atmosphere via social media. On GNK Dinamo's official Twitter profile, a photo was posted with the caption: "For those who can't sleep without the traditional night photo 😉". The UEFA rankings remain extremely dynamic and will be updated after each European round, but one thing is certain: Dinamo's 'firecracker' has already brought tangible and extremely important benefits to Croatian football as a whole.
