Irresponsible quad and cross motorcycle riders damage gravel roads, kick up dust, and endanger the safety of locals and day-trippers in the Brod Moravice area.
The municipality of Brod Moravice in Gorski Kotar has decided to put an end to irresponsible quad and motorcycle riders whose reckless driving has been causing increasing damage to local roads and disturbing the peace of nature in recent weeks. In cooperation with the Delnice Police Station, they have announced enhanced surveillance on categorized and uncategorized roads throughout the municipality, as well as at other critical locations.
In a statement issued on August 5, 2026, the municipality warned that they frequently record damage to gravel roads, forest trails, and other surfaces. "Such riding destroys nature and infrastructure, raises large amounts of dust, and endangers hikers, hunters, pedestrians, locals, and other road users," the Brod Moravice municipality stated, adding that the response came after numerous reports and documented damage.
The municipal administration particularly highlighted the legal provisions regulating such behavior. According to Article 139 of the Nature Protection Act, the movement of motor vehicles off roads and designated paths, as well as in areas where it is prohibited for nature protection purposes, is strictly forbidden. This applies to both public and private forests. For established violations, high fines are prescribed for individuals, ranging from €660 to €4,000.
Alongside the announcement of repressive measures, the municipality also issued an appeal to all motor vehicle users traveling in the area. "We especially appeal to all drivers to adjust their speed to the terrain conditions on gravel roads and paths. Fast driving further damages the roads, creates clouds of dust, and endangers the safety of locals and pedestrians," the statement reads.
They emphasized that the goal is to protect not only infrastructure but also the safety of everyone spending time in nature. "We ask all users of the area to respect regulations, private property, nature, and the safety of others," was the concluding message from the Brod Moravice municipality.
