Dubrovnik Sees Decline in Peak Season: July Brings Fewer Guests Than Last Year

In the midst of the summer tourist season, the Dubrovnik-Neretva County is recording an unexpected decline in key indicators. According to data from the Dubrovnik-Neretva County Tourist Board, July 2026 saw 423,755 arrivals and 2,003,701 overnight stays, representing a decrease of 0.5 percent in arrivals and 2 percent in overnight stays compared to the same month last year.

Despite this, the destination remains highly popular. The eVisitor system shows that around 71,000 guests are currently staying in the county. Among them, the most numerous in July were guests from the United Kingdom, who accounted for 255,704 overnight stays, followed by tourists from Poland with 184,073 overnight stays and Slovenia with 163,729. Significant numbers of overnight stays were also recorded by guests from Bosnia and Herzegovina (155,334) and domestic tourists from Croatia (143,281).

Private Accommodation Dominates Guest Choices

An analysis by accommodation type reveals that nearly half of all overnight stays in July were in private accommodation, totaling 978,979, which accounts for 49 percent of the total. Hotels were the choice for 30 percent of guests, or 596,099 overnight stays. This statistic underscores the continued popularity of private accommodation in southern Croatia.

Cumulative Results: 1 Percent Drop in Overnight Stays

Looking at the period from the beginning of the year to the end of July, the overall picture also shows a slight downward trend. In the first seven months of 2026, the county recorded 1,241,164 arrivals and 4,816,631 overnight stays. While the number of arrivals remained at the same level as last year, the number of overnight stays is 1 percent lower compared to the same period in 2025.

On an annual basis, the ranking of the most important source markets is somewhat different. Guests from the United Kingdom lead with 773,050 overnight stays, followed by tourists from the United States with 446,351 overnight stays. Next are Poland (373,032), Croatia (342,041), and Bosnia and Herzegovina (303,449).
