The Municipal State Attorney's Office in Zadar conducted an examination of a 30-year-old French citizen suspected of attacking two police officers on the island of Vir. The incident occurred two nights ago, and the suspect injured the officers with his car while they were attempting to arrest him.
According to the State Attorney's Office of the Republic of Croatia (DORH), it all began with a routine traffic stop. The police stopped the Frenchman and asked him to exit the vehicle. He refused, ignoring their commands. When they informed him he was under arrest and attempted to physically subdue him, he actively resisted.
In an attempt to evade arrest, the 30-year-old abruptly drove off. The car dragged the two officers several meters, running over their feet with the wheel. Both sustained minor physical injuries in the incident.
The prosecution charges the Frenchman with two counts of coercion against an official. After the initial examination, the Municipal State Attorney's Office in Zadar filed a motion with the County Court in Zadar to order pretrial detention. The measure was proposed solely due to the risk of flight, in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Act.
