A fire broke out in the Zagreb neighborhood of Borovje, near the Youth Bridge, on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at around 2 p.m. Thick black smoke billowing high into the air was visible from more distant parts of the city, and according to initial reports, the fire engulfed a house located right next to the embankment.
Information about the fire was reported to the newsroom by readers of 24sata. One of them described what they saw. "I saw the fire right by the embankment; as far as I know, someone lived there," the reader told 24sata.
Firefighting units are on the ground and working to extinguish the blaze. So far, there is no information about possible injuries or the cause of the fire. Photos from the scene, credited to photographer Igor Kralj (PIXSELL), show a thick cloud of smoke looming over that part of the city.
