Police officers from several Croatian departments found two expensive speedboats in the Šibenik area on July 30, 2026, which had been stolen in Sweden in previous years. The total value of the found vessels is estimated at around €220,000, and it was determined that their markings had been forged.

Coordinated Action by Multiple Police Stations

The operation involved officers from the Šibenik-Knin Police Department and its Criminal Police Service, in cooperation with colleagues from the Split-Dalmatia Police Department, specifically the Split Maritime Police Station. Officers from the Police Directorate's General Crime Service also played a key role, contributing to the resolution of this case.

The speedboats were reportedly stolen in Sweden during 2023 and 2025, and Croatian authorities located them almost two years after the first disappearance. The news of the discovery was officially announced on August 3, 2026.

Knowledge Gained from FRONTEX Training

The Police Directorate emphasizes that the success of this operation is a direct result of knowledge gained at an international training on boat theft, held in May 2026 in Split. The training, which has been continuously conducted since 2020, was organized by FRONTEX, with the Police Directorate hosting the Split edition.

The three-day training brought together police officers from several EU countries. Croatia was represented by members of the police, customs, and harbor master's offices. The instructors included specialists from Germany, police officers specialized in boat theft, and FRONTEX lecturers.

"The most important message conveyed during the training proved to be accurate in the discovery of the two speedboats: continuous international cooperation. Not only the knowledge but also the contacts made during the training significantly contributed to resolving the Šibenik case, surely the first in a series," the Police Directorate stated in a press release.
