Police officers from the Virovitica-Podravina Police Department stopped a driver on Wednesday, August 6, 2026, who was speeding through a residential area at more than double the legal limit. The incident occurred around 2:50 PM in Novi Senkovac, during an intensified traffic control operation as part of the international ROADPOL campaign.
The driver of a passenger car with Varaždin license plates was traveling at 108 kilometers per hour, despite the speed limit of 50 km/h on that stretch of road. Misdemeanor proceedings will be initiated against him, and he faces serious penalties.
For such a serious speeding offense in a residential area, the law prescribes strict penalties. The driver faces a fine ranging from €1,320 to €2,650 or, alternatively, up to 60 days in jail. In addition, a three-month driving ban for B-category vehicles is also stipulated, along with the assessment of six negative penalty points.
The violation was detected as part of the international ROADPOL operation, which is being conducted from August 3 to 9, 2026, in the Virovitica-Podravina County and other European countries. The aim of this operation is to enhance overall road safety.
On this occasion, the police once again appealed to drivers, emphasizing that inappropriate speed is one of the main causes of the most severe traffic accidents, especially in residential areas where pedestrians and other road users are most vulnerable.
