A major disruption in tram traffic occurred on Tuesday, August 5, 2026, in the very center of Zagreb. A tram on line 9, heading towards Trg žrtava fašizma, came to a halt just before noon at the turn onto Savska Road, near the Cibona Tower.
According to Jutarnji list, the traffic stoppage was caused by a problem with the tram switches. ZET workers were immediately dispatched to the scene to fix the fault. What particularly alarmed eyewitnesses was the fact that, in the scorching heat, the workers were lying on the asphalt next to the tram without any protective barrier, as is typically used at construction sites.
One reader of Jutarnji list commented on the situation, saying: "This is due to lack of maintenance."
The stoppage quickly created a queue of trams that stretched down Tratinska Street, even beyond the intersection with Badalićeva. The situation further complicated car traffic, as one of the trams on Tratinska blocked the turn onto Andrašecova Street. However, drivers quickly adapted and used an alternative passage next to a nearby fast-food kiosk.
Despite the significant disruption, due to the holiday and the fact that the city was half-empty, there were no major passenger delays. ZET workers were on-site fixing the issue, and traffic was normalized during the afternoon.
