Croatian tennis player Antonia Ružić failed to secure a spot in the round of 16 at the WTA 1000 tournament in Toronto. In the second round, she was outplayed by the experienced American Madison Keys, who claimed a convincing 6:1, 6:2 victory after just 82 minutes of play.
Keys, ranked 23rd on the WTA list and last year's Australian Open champion, dominated the match from start to finish, conceding only three games to the player from Međimurje. The stats reveal where Ružić lost the crucial points: her first-serve percentage was a modest 53 percent, and she managed just one ace. Despite creating seven break points, she converted only two.
Keys, on the other hand, was far more efficient. She converted seven of her 13 break opportunities, while Ružić dropped serve seven times, which proved decisive in such a short match.
This was their second career meeting, with the first also going to the American. Keys also won earlier this year at Roland Garros, again without dropping a set. Ružić will have to wait longer for her first win against a player of this caliber.
