Maritime wardens have begun leaving notices at illegal anchorages and moorings, with mass removal starting next week.
The Maritime Warden Service of the Municipality of Vir began the first phase of a major cleanup operation of the maritime domain from illegally placed anchorages and boat moorings this morning, August 7, 2026. The operation was launched across a large part of Vir's waters, with the first step being the placement of official notices to owners of vessels located in unauthorized areas.
Wardens have left a written notice at each illegal anchorage and mooring, requiring owners to remove their vessels immediately. The notice explicitly states that a violation of the Decision on Order in the Maritime Domain has been established, and the message reads:
"Dear Sir/Madam, an on-site inspection has determined that you have violated the provisions of the Decision on Order in the Maritime Domain (Official Gazette of the Municipality of Vir 09/24). We kindly ask you to remove your vessel from the beach area IMMEDIATELY AND WITHOUT DELAY. Should you fail to comply with this notice, we will be forced to relocate your vessel at YOUR expense and risk."
The Maritime Warden Service, operating under the Administrative Department for Physical Planning, Construction, and Communal Affairs, has confirmed that notices will be distributed until the end of this week.
In the first phase of the operation, priority will be given to removing anchorages and moorings located less than 50 meters from the fences of organized bathing areas, as well as those within the bathing areas themselves. Such anchorages pose the greatest danger to the safety of citizens and bathers, which is why they are first in line for intervention.
After the deadline for voluntary removal expires, the physical removal of illegal anchorages and moorings will begin next week. All owners who fail to comply with the notice will face the relocation of their vessels at their own expense and risk.
The Municipality of Vir has also announced that future anchoring locations will be defined through amendments to the Spatial Plan, which are already underway. This aims to establish permanent order in the maritime domain and ensure that beaches remain safe and accessible to everyone.
