A minor who was seriously injured in a fall from an electric scooter near Velika Gorica died yesterday at the Zagreb University Hospital Center, police confirmed on Tuesday, August 4, 2026.
According to the police report, the accident happened on Friday at around 10:20 PM in Gudci Street. The underage driver was operating a Kukirin electric scooter, with another minor riding along. Neither was wearing a protective helmet.
They were traveling north on the roadway when, near house number 35, the driver failed to adjust his speed to the road conditions. He lost control of the scooter, and both fell onto the pavement.
The scooter driver sustained severe physical injuries and was rushed to Zagreb University Hospital Center, where he died from his injuries. The police have not yet released details about the condition of the other minor.
The police once again reminded the public of key rules for electric scooter riders. Wearing a helmet is a legal requirement for all riders, regardless of age. Scooters should be ridden on bicycle lanes, or where these are absent, on sidewalks or pedestrian areas, while ensuring the safety of others.
Children under the age of 14 are not permitted to operate an electric scooter. If they do, their parents or guardians are held responsible for the violation. The law also prohibits riding under the influence of alcohol above 0.5 per mille, drugs, or medications that impair driving ability. Carrying another person on a scooter is forbidden, and at night or in reduced visibility conditions, riders must wear a reflective vest or clothing and use a white front light and a red rear light.
