Markić: Plenković Uses Public Funds to Finance SNV's Lies About Operation Storm

Željka Markić, executive director of the In the Name of the Family association, has once again drawn attention to what she calls the financing of Greater Serbian lies with public funds, amid the commemoration of the anniversary of the military-police operation Storm. In her Facebook post, she directly called out Prime Minister Andrej Plenković and the Serb National Council (SNV).
"It is a fact that Prime Minister Andrej Plenković uses public funds to finance the Greater Serbian lies that the SNV spreads about Operation Storm and Croatia," Markić wrote, adding that this amounts to "mocking democracy."
In her post, Markić also addressed the electoral system, calling for the abolition of the automatic entry of minority representatives into the Parliament. "31 years after Operation Storm, the privileged entry of eight minority representatives into the Parliament should be abolished so that Croats are no longer second-class citizens in their own country. And so that taxpayers' money is no longer used to finance lies about Croatia," she stated.
She also emphasized that the Croatian model is unique in the European Union. "No EU country has this model where eight representatives automatically enter the Parliament and then millions of euros in taxpayers' money are used to finance Greater Serbian propaganda against Croatia," Markić wrote.
A few months ago, her association presented a report in the Parliament titled "Content Analysis of the Novosti Portal and Vida TV Audiovisual Channel in 2025." The analysis found that SNV media, contrary to the conditions of the tenders by the Council for National Minorities and the Office for Human Rights and Rights of National Minorities, which prohibit ideological and political content, constantly produce exactly such content.
According to the findings of the analysis, Novosti and Vida TV write negatively about "Operation Storm," emphasize Greater Serbian narratives about that operation and the entire Homeland War, while simultaneously glorifying the partisan movement.
Markić particularly highlighted the financial aspect. According to data from the report, Novosti and Vida TV received a total of about 2.5 million euros in 2025. This amount is two and a half times larger than the budget of the Croatian Memorial-Documentation Center of the Homeland War.
The day before this post, on August 5, 2026, Prime Minister Plenković met with the president of the Šibenik-Knin HDZ and County Prefect Paško Rakić, as well as the leadership of the Knin HDZ led by Robert Marić. The meeting discussed the development of health and transport infrastructure and other projects to improve the quality of life for citizens in that county.
