Heatwave in Dalmatia Continues, with Bura Expected from Friday That Could Worsen Fire Situation; Despite Winds, Temperatures Remain High up to 39°C.
Hot and dry days in Dalmatia show no signs of letting up, and the current heatwave will intensify further towards the end of the week. Although a bura wind is on the horizon, it will not bring the desired relief; instead, it could create additional problems, especially given the numerous fires that have ravaged the region in recent days.
According to data from DalmacijaDanas, the interior was the hottest part of the country yesterday. Osijek recorded a scorching 39.3°C, while the hottest spot in Dalmatia was Knin with a daily high of 37 degrees. Photographer Eddy Meštrović captured the heat that marked the day.
Today, we expect mostly sunny weather. During the afternoon, brief showers accompanied by thunderstorms are occasionally expected in the Dalmatian hinterland. At night, it will be calm or a gentle bura wind will blow, while during the day a weak to moderate maestral will bring a bit of freshness. Minimum morning temperatures will range from 15 to 25°C, and daily highs mostly from 31 to 36°C.
Thursday continues with true summer weather. In the afternoon, only isolated passing showers with thunderstorms are expected in the Dalmatian hinterland, mainly near the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina. The wind will be similar to today's - calm or bura at night, weak to moderate maestral during the day. Morning temperatures will be from 17 to 27°C, and daytime highs from 31 to 37°C.
Friday will also be mostly sunny, with the possibility of local passing showers and thunderstorms in the Dalmatian hinterland. At night, it will be calm or bura will blow, and during the day a weak to moderate maestral. However, in the afternoon, a bura wind will begin to blow in the northern Adriatic, with gusts of storm strength under Velebit. According to DalmacijaDanas, strong gusts will also appear in Dalmatia in the evening. Morning temperatures will be from 18 to 27°C, and daytime highs from 32 to 38°C.
On Saturday morning, clear skies are expected. In the afternoon, some places may see light showers with thunderstorms, most likely in the Dalmatian hinterland. During the night, the bura will weaken, and during the day a moderate wind from western directions will blow. It will be warmer from the morning, and daytime temperatures will mostly rise from 33 to 39°C.
Sunday will be very similar and sunny, except that a moderate to fresh west wind will blow over the sea in the afternoon. Summer temperatures will persist into the following week, with a new bura expected as early as Wednesday.
