  • This is the second of three planned increases in 2026, with the last raising the base to 1,035 euros in December.

  • Average net teacher salaries in May ranged from 1,597 to 2,318 euros, depending on rank and coefficient.

Public servants, including teachers in primary and secondary schools, are entitled to a new, higher salary base starting August 1, 2026. According to Poslovni dnevnik, the base has been increased by one percent, from the previous 1,015 euros to 1,025 euros gross.

This increase is the second in a series of three annual raises, each by one percent. The first was implemented in April, and the last is expected in December 2026, when the base will reach 1,035 euros gross, with payments at that rate following in January 2027.

First Higher Pay in September

Employees in public services will first feel the increase on their August salary, which is paid in September. The Preporod school union announced that teachers' July salaries, the last before this increase, will be paid on Monday, August 10, 2026.

The government made the decision to raise the base in three stages unilaterally, as public sector unions did not agree to it. In May 2026, unions requested an urgent meeting with the government, fearing potential pay cuts in the public sector after anti-inflation measures were presented. According to Poslovni dnevnik, there is no news on this matter as of yet.

Current Salaries in Schools
