Croatian tennis players achieved notable results on the international stage this weekend. Mili Poljičak won the doubles title at the ATP Challenger in San Marino, while Marin Čilić is preparing for his appearance at the prestigious ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Montreal.
After securing a spot in the singles final, Mili Poljičak also claimed the trophy in doubles. Partnering with Serbian player Stefan Latinović, he defeated the French duo of Arthur Reymond and Luca Sanchez 7:6(5), 6:3 in the final, as reported by Dalmacija News.
This is Poljičak's fifth career Challenger doubles title and his third in 2026, confirming his excellent form in this discipline.
On the other side of the Atlantic, Marin Čilić begins his campaign at the National Bank Open in Montreal. In the first round, he faces Japanese player Shoa Shimabukure. The match is scheduled for Sunday at midnight Croatian time (6:00 PM local time) on the hard courts of the Stade Iga complex, and will be broadcast on Sport Klub 2.
"Experience playing at this tournament certainly helps. I've played here multiple times, so it's easier for me to adapt to the conditions, but once the matches start, all that goes out the window. I always enjoy the American part of the season, especially the US Open, where I've had good results beyond winning the title in 2014," Čilić said in his preview for Sport Klub.
The Croatian player also commented on the challenging playing conditions in Montreal.
"It can be tough due to the heat, humidity, and fast courts. I'm positive, I feel good, and I hope to play at the highest level,"he added.
Čilić also extended congratulations to current Croatian tennis captain Ivan Dodig on the opening of his tennis center in Međugorje. The opening was recently marked with a doubles exhibition featuring Dodig, Čilić, Novak Đoković, and Mate Pavić.
"Congratulations to Ivan, who returned to his hometown and opened a center that I hope will produce new champions!"Čilić said for Sport Klub.
