Last night, on August 7, 2026, at 1:20 AM, the Seismological Service recorded a moderate earthquake with its epicenter located 11 kilometers southeast of Novi Vinodolski. The earthquake had a magnitude of 3.5 on the Richter scale, and the intensity at the epicenter was estimated at IV-V on the EMS scale.
Residents share their experiences
Although it was a moderate earthquake, many residents of Kvarner felt the ground shaking. Numerous comments quickly appeared on the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) website. "Strong jolt, it woke me up and I jumped out of bed," one resident wrote. Others described the shaking as "a powerful rumble and noise" and "a deep rumble that shook my bed."
Index.hr readers also reported in from the areas of Crikvenica, Krk, and Senj, confirming they felt the tremors. One of them described the experience as "a brief explosion."
