Real Madrid and RB Leipzig have reached an agreement for the transfer of Yan Diomande, the Spanish giants officially confirmed on August 6, 2026. The Ivorian winger will sign a long-term contract with the Royal Club, concluding one of the biggest transfer sagas of this summer.
Sources differ in their estimates of the total value of the deal. Specialized journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that the total value will range between €130 million and €140 million. The Athletic, meanwhile, claims the final figure is €140 million. Real's official confirmation states that this is the second-largest transfer in the club's history.
These figures place Diomande just behind the record transfer of Jude Bellingham. His arrival from Borussia Dortmund amounted to €103 million fixed, or €127 million in total with bonuses. Among Real's biggest transfers in the past, the arrivals of Eden Hazard (€120.8 million), Gareth Bale (€101 million), and Cristiano Ronaldo (€94 million) also stand out.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Diomande will sign a contract valid until June 2032. The 19-year-old forward made 36 appearances in all competitions for Leipzig last season, scoring 13 goals and providing 10 assists. In the Bundesliga, he played 33 matches, scored 12 goals, and registered 9 assists. Transfermarkt values him at €90 million.
Diomande landed in Madrid accompanied by his agents, Nathan Campbell and Kareem Gbaja, where he will complete the formalities before his official presentation. He was also a target for PSG, but Real successfully intervened in the negotiations and secured the young talent's signature.
In parallel with bringing in Diomande, Real Madrid is intensively working on extending Vinicius Junior's contract. After positive talks held the day before, the club increased its offer and presented several models for an extension until June 2031. The Brazilian's current contract expires in June 2027.
According to Globo, Real has for the first time offered amounts that exceed the usual framework. Vinicius is expected to reach the club's salary cap of €20 million per year, which president Florentino Perez has set as the upper limit, but through signing bonuses, individual achievements, and loyalty rewards, his total earnings would be significantly higher. Coach José Mourinho insists on his staying.
Interestingly, on August 6, Vinicius deleted all posts from his Instagram profile, which came after Real presented him with a new contract extension offer. Arsenal, according to UOL, had tried to lure the Brazilian with a contract worth €24 million per season, an increase of about €5 million compared to his current salary.
In the shadow of the big transfer, Barcelona has joined the race for Rodri, the captain of the Spanish national team and a Manchester City player. Real Madrid has been trying to bring in the midfielder for weeks, and negotiations between the clubs are ongoing. The transfer could be completed for around €50 million. Barcelona hopes to offer him better terms.
Manchester City, meanwhile, sold goalkeeper James Trafford to Leeds for an amount that could reach €50 million with bonuses. Galatasaray sent an offer to Milan of €35 million for Portuguese winger Rafael Leao, but the Italian club rejected it and is asking for a higher amount, reports journalist Antonio Vitiello.
River Plate has reached a verbal agreement with Atlético Madrid for the transfer of Argentine midfielder Thiago Almada. The fee, according to Marca, should be around €20 million. Hull City, on the other hand, completed the biggest transfer in their history, bringing in Greek goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis from Olympiacos for €23 million, breaking the record set in 2016 when they paid €15.4 million for Ryan Mason.
Newcastle coach Matthias Jaissle has hinted at the possibility of new signings. "We can wait. We certainly have the capacity to do something in the market, and our sporting director is aware of that. Once the season starts, we will surely see some new faces," he said. Newcastle will earn more than €280 million from player sales this summer, having so far spent €168 million on reinforcements.
