Mohamed Salah, one of the most recognizable footballers of today, is officially a new player for Turkish club Trabzonspor. The club announced on Thursday, August 6, 2026, that a two-year contract has been signed with the Egyptian forward. The signing ceremony took place in the presence of club president Ertuğrul Doğan, with photos published on the club's official platforms.
The transfer marks the end of an era for Salah, who left Liverpool this summer after nine highly successful years at Anfield. He made 442 appearances for the Reds, scoring 257 goals, and won two Premier League titles and one Champions League trophy.
Turkish media have revealed the financial terms of this lucrative deal. According to the contract, Salah will earn €17 million per season at Trabzonspor. In addition to his base salary, he has agreed to receive 20 percent of revenue from merchandise sales bearing his name, as well as performance-related bonuses each season.
Interestingly, before signing for Trabzonspor, Salah was close to joining city rivals Beşiktaş. However, negotiations reportedly stalled due to his financial demands and image rights issues, according to local media.
Salah arrives in Turkey after a turbulent final season at Liverpool. In the 2024-25 season, he dazzled with 29 goals and 18 assists in the Premier League, equaling the league's single-season scoring record and setting a new record in the 38-game era. That season, he was named Player of the Season, won the Golden Boot and the Playmaker award, becoming the first player to achieve both in the same season.
However, last season his output dropped dramatically. In 27 league appearances, he scored just seven goals and provided seven assists. The situation escalated when he was left on the bench in Champions League matches, leading to a public fallout with then-Liverpool manager Arne Slot.
Trabzonspor, considered the fourth-biggest club in Turkey behind Istanbul giants Fenerbahçe, Galatasaray, and Beşiktaş, finished third in the Super Lig last season. That finish secured them a spot in the Europa League playoffs, where Salah's experience will be invaluable.
Salah began his European career in 2012 with Swiss club Basel, before a brief stint at Chelsea. Between 2015 and 2017, he played for Fiorentina and AS Roma, before arriving at Liverpool in 2017 and writing history.
