Slovenia Hit by Rain and Hail, Some Precipitation Reaches Kvarner

After a prolonged dry spell, parts of Croatia may finally get some relief. While Slovenians already received their share of rain and hail on Wednesday afternoon, August 5, 2026, radar images show that some of this precipitation will spill over the border, bringing relief primarily to the Kvarner region.
According to radar imagery from the Slovenian site Neurje and the Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service (DHMZ), taken around 4:30 PM, rain-bearing clouds are currently over central and southwestern Slovenia. The intensity of precipitation on both radars is marked in blue to green, indicating light to moderate rainfall. The clouds extend all the way to the Rijeka area and the Kvarner islands, where some rain could soon fall.
Earlier in the day, DHMZ announced that stronger cloud development is possible inland. This could lead to local showers in the interior of Istria and Gorski Kotar, with similar conditions possible in inland Dalmatia. However, the chances of a more serious thunderstorm are quite low. Radars currently show only minor systems developing around Ljubljana and in the mountainous areas of Gorski Kotar, and the likelihood of these spreading over the rest of Croatia is low.
Although no dramatic weather events are expected, every drop of rain is welcome for areas that have been waiting for the end of the dry spell for days.
