The legal drama between NBA star Luka Dončić and his ex-fiancée, Slovenian model Anamarija Goltes, has taken a new, unexpected turn. Goltes filed a motion to withdraw her lawsuit seeking child support for their two children in a Los Angeles court, according to TMZ Sports. However, the court denied her request, leaving room for continued negotiations and a potential amicable resolution outside the courtroom.
In court documents obtained by TMZ, Goltes clearly explained her decision. She emphasized that the primary goal is to reach an agreement that serves the best interests of their daughters, two-year-old Gabriela and seven-month-old Olivia.
"I am withdrawing my child support request with the specific intention of resolving this matter amicably and through mutual agreement that is in the best interests of our children," Goltes stated in the documents, as reported by Kurir.rs, citing TMZ Sports. N1 BiH reports a slightly different wording from the same documents: "I am withdrawing my child support request with the clear intention of resolving this matter amicably and through mutual agreement that is in the best interests of our children."
Although Anamarija Goltes's move surprised many and was seen as a step toward easing tensions, the legal process is not yet concluded. The Los Angeles court denied her request to withdraw the case because the documentation lacked Luka Dončić's signature. This procedural issue means both parties will need to take additional steps to formally dismiss the proceedings.
The legal wording used in the request leaves the possibility of reopening the case in the future if an agreement between the former partners is not reached.
One of the key contentious issues in the entire case was court jurisdiction. Dončić and his legal team argued that the children live in Slovenia, where Goltes has resided since May of last year, and therefore the California court is not competent to rule on child support. This issue was of paramount importance due to how child support amounts are calculated in California.
Given Dončić's contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, worth around $165 million, U.S. media estimated that monthly child support could amount to around €175,000. According to some estimates, this amount could even exceed €500,000 per month, which explains why the issue of court jurisdiction was so crucial for both parties.
With this development, the former partners have been given the opportunity to resolve the entire dispute amicably, avoiding further legal proceedings and the media attention that follows every detail of the NBA superstar's private life.
