Seismographs recorded a magnitude of 2.6 on the Richter scale, with the epicenter near the town of Zagradinje. A stronger earthquake struck near Novi Vinodolski the previous night.
Residents of Dubrovnik and its surroundings were disturbed this morning by a brief but noticeable shaking of the ground. The Seismological Service recorded a weak earthquake with a magnitude of 2.6 on the Richter scale on Friday, August 7, 2026, at 8:46 AM.
According to the report from the Geophysical Department of the Faculty of Science in Zagreb, the epicenter of the earthquake was located in Bosnia and Herzegovina, seven kilometers north of Cavtat, near the town of Zagradinje. The intensity at the epicenter was estimated at III to IV degrees on the EMS scale.
The data was also confirmed by the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC), which reported on its platform that an earthquake with a magnitude of 2.7 was recorded 13 kilometers southwest of Trebinje. Citizens commented on the EMSC website that the shaking was brief but still pronounced enough to be felt.
This was not the only seismic event that has disturbed Croatian citizens in recent hours. Earlier, at 1:20 AM, a moderate earthquake with a magnitude of 3.5 on the Richter scale struck the area near Novi Vinodolski.
Although the earthquakes were relatively weak and did not cause any material damage, they serve as a reminder of the seismic activity characteristic of this region.
