In Split, a search is underway for witnesses to a serious traffic accident in which a 31-year-old pedestrian sustained injuries that caused her to lose her baby. The accident occurred on July 6, 2026, at approximately 11:15 PM at a marked pedestrian crossing on Put Radoševca Street, and the unknown taxi driver fled the scene after the impact.
According to a notice posted by the injured woman, as reported by Dalmacija Danas, she was crossing the pedestrian crossing near the Trstenik bus stop at the time of the impact. An unknown vehicle with a "TAXI" sign on a black rectangular background struck her. In a heartbreaking appeal, she stated that due to her injuries, she lost her baby in the 16th week of pregnancy.
The Split-Dalmatia Police Department announced on July 28 that the case was reported on Monday, July 27, 2026, nearly three weeks after the accident. In an official statement, it is noted that the unknown driver, upon reaching the pedestrian crossing, struck the right side of the pedestrian's body with the front right part of the car and then left the scene.
"On Monday, July 6, 2026, at approximately 11:15 PM in Split, on the roadway of Put Radoševca Street, south of house number 2, a traffic accident occurred involving an unknown vehicle with a 'TAXI' sign on a black rectangular background and a 31-year-old pedestrian. Upon reaching the scene, at the marked pedestrian crossing, the unknown driver struck the right side of the pedestrian's body with the front right part of the unknown car and left the scene," the Split-Dalmatia Police Department stated in a press release.
The police have called on anyone with useful information to report in person to the Split Traffic Police Station or call 021 504-010 and 021 504-036. Meanwhile, the victim, through notices placed around the city, has asked citizens to contact her if they were near the Trstenik bus stop that evening or have any information that could help determine the circumstances of the accident.
According to Slobodna Dalmacija, the author of the appeal thanked all citizens for their help at the end of the message, expressing hope that someone whose testimony could contribute to shedding light on the event would come forward. The police add that the goal is to establish all the facts and circumstances that preceded this accident.
