While the mainland is forecast to see a break from the heat and local storms, the coast continues to endure unbearable heat and warm nights.
After a series of scorching days, residents of inland Croatia can finally expect at least brief relief. According to available forecasts, weakened frontal disturbances are approaching from the west, which will graze our regions in the latter part of Friday, bringing more unstable and less warm air. Unfortunately, this change will barely touch the Adriatic.
Today, Thursday, will be marked by mostly sunny and extremely hot weather. The morning will be clear and mostly calm, with very warm conditions at the sea. A weak bora will blow only in places under Velebit and Biokovo, while brief fog or mist is possible on the islands.
In central and northwestern Croatia, the afternoon will be sunny with temperatures ranging from 37 to 38 degrees Celsius. The wind will be light from the northeast, with an expected increase only late in the night into Friday. In Slavonia, Baranja, and Srijem, it will also be sunny and very hot, with temperatures up to 38, and locally 39 degrees.
Dalmatia will not be spared high temperatures, which will range between 33 and 36 degrees, and up to 38 in the hinterland. Although sunny weather will prevail, there is a possibility of vertical cloud development in the interior, especially near the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina and in Konavle, where brief showers could occur.
A similar situation is expected in the northern Adriatic. In addition to plenty of sunshine and temperatures from 35 to 38, locally even up to 39 degrees, cloud development with occasional showers may occur in the Rijeka hinterland, inland Istria, and Gorski Kotar.
Real relief for the interior arrives from Friday into Saturday when a moderate, temporarily strong north and northeast wind will pick up. With occasional more clouds, showers accompanied by thunder are expected, and local storms are possible. Stabilization of the weather is forecast from Sunday, but pronounced heat will return during the day.
On the Adriatic, the weather change will hardly be felt. The heatwave continues with uncomfortable daytime heat and very warm nights, especially on Friday and Saturday when a stronger bora will blow under Velebit. Only the occasional shower from the more unstable Friday may reach the northern, and less frequently, the central part of the coast. Over the weekend, the bora weakens, and from Sunday, stable summer conditions continue, but still with uncomfortable heat.
