Warning for Knežija: Man Snatches Necklace from Woman

An incident at the tram stop in Zagreb's Knežija neighborhood this morning has shaken the local community. An unknown young man approached a woman from behind, snatched her gold necklace, and fled, with witnesses now warning that this is not an isolated case.

Attack After Getting Off the Number 5 Tram

According to a post in a group that gathers Knežija residents, the victim got off tram number 5 at the Knežija stop on Monday, August 4, 2026, around 8 a.m. At that moment, the attacker approached from behind and tore off her necklace.

An acquaintance of the victim described the perpetrator's escape in detail in a social media post. "He then jumped over the low wall and ran toward Spar, disappearing around the corner of the building. Clearly, a criminal is operating in our area," his appeal read, urging neighbors to be cautious.

Series of Comments Reveals a Pattern

The post quickly sparked an avalanche of reactions from residents who shared their own, almost identical experiences. "This isn't his first time in Knežija. He asked my neighbor for directions to Lidl and then ripped off a fairly sturdy chain," one commenter wrote. Another added: "He stole a chain from my mom near Spar too."

The comments suggest it's the same perpetrator who has been active in the area for some time, using a similar pattern-quickly approaching the victim, snatching jewelry, and fleeing immediately. One commenter was skeptical of advice about carrying self-defense tools: "By the time you pull out pepper spray, he's already behind the high-rises in Srednjaci."

The comments also reveal that similar incidents have occurred near other stores in the neighborhood, such as Lidl and Spar, indicating that the perpetrator knows the terrain and his escape route toward the nearby Srednjaci settlement well.
