The Shrine of Our Lady of Refuge in Aljmaš, the most significant Marian shrine in the Archdiocese of Đakovo-Osijek and throughout Slavonia, has announced the schedule of Masses, devotions, and pilgrimages for the Feast of the Assumption. The program begins with a triduum on August 11, 2026, and concludes with the pilgrimage of the sick and infirm on Sunday, August 16, 2026.
The triduum will take place on August 11, 12, and 13, 2026. Each day, half an hour before the 7:00 PM Mass, special Marian devotions will begin. After Mass, there will be Eucharistic adoration with prayers for healing and liberation. The triduum will be led by Fr. Ivan Matić, the director of spiritual retreats at the Tabor meeting house.
The vigil of the Feast of the Assumption, on Friday, August 14, 2026, brings a series of events. At 5:30 PM, the Stations of the Cross devotion begins at the Aljmaš Calvary. Holy Mass is at 7:00 PM, followed by Eucharistic adoration at 8:00 PM. At 9:00 PM, a candlelight procession will set off to the Chapel of Our Lady under the Linden Tree, and at 10:00 PM, a Mass for young people will be celebrated, featuring testimonies, song, and praise.
On the Feast of the Assumption, Saturday, August 15, 2026, Masses will be celebrated at 6:00 AM, 8:00 AM, 10:00 AM, 12:00 PM, 4:00 PM, and 6:00 PM. The noon Mass is dedicated to the victims of the Homeland War, while the 6:00 PM Mass is intended for young married couples and their children, with a blessing of children at the end of Mass. At 7:00 PM, a concert of spiritual music will feature performances by Zvonimir Kalić & Band Noel.
On Sunday, August 16, 2026, the pilgrimage of the sick and infirm will take place, along with a blessing of drivers and vehicles. Masses are scheduled at 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM, and after both Masses, there will be a blessing of the sick, drivers, and vehicles.
As announced from Aljmaš, throughout all the days, pilgrims will have the opportunity for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and before each Mass, special devotions will be held. To ensure safe arrival, 12 acres of parking are provided, and pedestrians are advised to use the bicycle path from Nemetin to the roundabout at the turnoff for Aljmaš.
