The long-running saga over Vinicius Junior's future has finally come to an end. The Brazilian forward has reached a full agreement with Real Madrid on a new six-year contract, confirmed transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on Wednesday. An official announcement is expected by the end of this week.
This development has completely dashed the hopes of Arsenal, who had identified the 26-year-old as their primary target for the summer transfer window. The current English champions were prepared to launch a major offensive to bring him to London, and the player himself was open to that option provided he did not extend his loyalty to the Royal Club.
Negotiations, which had been ongoing with occasional interruptions since January 2025, ultimately concluded to the satisfaction of both parties. A key role in the final phase was played by the returning Real Madrid manager, Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese coach directly involved himself in the talks to convince Vinicius to continue his journey with Los Blancos.
"Vini always wanted to stay at Real Madrid, and Florentino Perez always considered him a key part of the project," Romano wrote on social media. Club president Perez viewed Vinicius as one of the cornerstones of the team's sporting project, which further facilitated reaching a final agreement.
According to Spanish outlet AS, Vinicius Junior's new salary will be around 24 million euros per year. Real Madrid improved their financial offer and managed to close the deal before the player could open negotiations with any other party, given that he had less than a year remaining on his existing contract.
Since arriving from Flamengo in 2018, Vinicius has played 375 matches for the Royal Club, scoring 128 goals and providing 100 assists. With Real, he has won three La Liga titles and two Champions League trophies, establishing himself as one of the best footballers in the world and a major commercial icon for the club.
The stay of the star player brings much-needed stability in a summer full of significant changes at the Santiago Bernabeu. Under Mourinho's leadership, the Madrid side has already revamped the squad by bringing in players such as Yan Diomandé, Bernardo Silva, Marc Cucurella, Ibrahim Konaté, Denzel Dumfries, and Carlos Espí.
