Vukovar Native Bruno Blends Physics with a Love for Nature

When he first donned climbing gear four years ago to take down a tree, Bruno Vučković had no idea he would fall in love with the profession. Today, this Vukovar native, a physics student by trade, is known as a 'tree surgeon,' and his skills are a rarity in both domestic and international markets.
Bruno grew up in the fields, in love with agriculture, but it was the challenges of that sector that prompted him to change course. "Agriculture was one of the triggers that made me start doing something else because no matter how small you are, you have to have your own machinery because it doesn't pay off as it is, let alone if you pay for services to have someone do the work for you. Then, when you have agricultural machinery, you can use it in other ways," Bruno Vučković told HRT Vijesti.
Today, he applies the laws of physics at dangerous heights, and Vukovar residents always call him when a tree becomes decayed and poses a threat. His work is particularly impressive when it comes to removing giants. "He's the best; no one dares to do what he can. We had an oak tree that was over 20-30 meters tall, and he came and cut it down piece by piece," said Mario, a witness to Bruno's work.
Although he is most often called for felling, arboriculture involves complete tree care, from planting to proper pruning. Bruno would most prefer to spend his time on activities like planting, inspecting, and protecting trees, which is his favorite job. The City of Vukovar recognizes the value of his work and actively collaborates with him. "We try to work with him, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, and Croatian Forests in every possible way. We aim to save as many trees as we can," said Dražen Čulig, head of the City of Vukovar's Department for Municipal Affairs and Construction.
Bruno emphasizes the importance of dedicating attention to healthy trees and their longevity. "These trees that are healthy and alive, they need perhaps a bit more attention because a tree doesn't live 50 years; it lives 500, and the fact that we cut it down after 50 is something entirely different," Bruno pointed out for HRT Vijesti. His career, which started with physics, then shifted to agronomy, and finally reached the tops of tall trees, is not uncommon, as the common thread of all these fields is a love for nature.
