Zadar Marks Victory Day: Wreaths Laid at City Cemetery

With the laying of wreaths and lighting of candles at the Central Cross in Zadar's City Cemetery, Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving Day and Croatian Veterans Day were marked today. Tribute was paid to all fallen Croatian defenders from the Homeland War, and the central event continues this evening with a ceremonial concert at the Forum.

Silence and Reverence at the City Cemetery

With deep respect, wreaths were laid by family members of fallen defenders and members of associations stemming from the Homeland War. Representatives of the Ministry of Croatian Veterans and the Ministry of the Interior also paid their respects, as did delegations from Zadar County and the City of Zadar. The delegations were led by County Prefect Josip Bilaver and Mayor Šime Erlić, joined by representatives of various associations and political parties.

Mayor's Message: Preserve the Truth for Future Generations

On this occasion, Mayor Šime Erlić emphasized the importance of remembering the sacrifice of the defenders. "Operation Storm is a symbol of unity and strength of the people, and the sacrifice of Croatian defenders must never be forgotten. Our lasting obligation is to preserve the memory of those heroic days and the courage of the defenders, and to pass on the truth about the Homeland War to future generations," Erlić said.

Evening Concert and Flag Distribution

The commemoration of the 31st anniversary of the military-police operation "Operation Storm '95" continues this evening at Zadar's Forum. A ceremonial concert has been prepared for citizens, and Croatian flags will be distributed before it begins.
